I’m not Larry (who says he is a private pilot, not a commercial one), and since it’s you I’m skeptical that you actually want an answer but have some sort of back-handed alterior motive for this question, but I’ll bit anyway.
Flying a commercial passenger plane IS, and has always been, a blue collar job. It doesn’t cease to be blue collar is someone is making enough money. What happened to high salaries? A lot of airlines had to file for bankruptcy, pilots were furloughed and the ones who still had paying jobs saw their salaries cut in half overnight. It’s a system where pay is based on tenure, not necessarily experience. Some of the discount airlines pay very poorly (not southwest, it is the best paying of all major airlines). Pay is starting to go up and they’re hiring now, but it’s nothing like before for most of the airlines
