Exit polls showed Bradley was winning the race pretty well; but he ended up losing decisively to his opponent. Why? Political scientists quickly surmised that people, particularly the majority white voting bloc who was being polled, didn’t want to appear to be racist by confessing they’d preferred the white candidate to the black one. They feared judgment and being perceived as racially biased or prejudiced. So, they lied. A sizable percentage of those polled lied to the researchers – they said they’d cast votes for Bradley when in fact they voted for his opponent.
So it is with women being surveyed and assessed for sexual preferences and conduct. They don’t want to be perceived as shallow sluts – not even anonymously; and not even if no one will ever find out. The point is they don’t want to say it out loud or pencil in the “wrong” answer, because feel bad. So they lie. They lie about their Ns, and they lie about the kinds and types of men they prefer. They lie about the qualities they value in men.
The lies become apparent when one assesses what these women are actually doing – their “revealed preferences” as opposed to their “stated” preferences.
