Okay, I’ll get to that in a sec, first to PJ.
Peejs and Creampies, I have a little interest in Indian culture, though, yeah, not a huge pool of knowledge. Right now I’m working my way through a book on Indian history post-Gandhi, specifically India and leaving most of the Pakistani issues out. Augmenting myself with a little knowledge here and there.
Honestly, Indian history and culture is not very compelling to me. And yes I am lumping a lot of separate cultures under Indian culture, though the point remains: India right now is a bit player compared to Japan, China, Europe, Russia, etc. That doesn’t garner much respect or interest from the INTJ-types, even though you might get more traction from the feely-types that love the Beatles and EPL. To us thinkers? India-what about it?
Admittedly, India has over the last few decades accomplished more in terms of nation-building than any other nation I can think of (besides China). Sure the Scots stayed with the UK, but that’s largely because old Scots want to raid the British budget: India holds itself together with a “Indian” identity that seems much stronger and much more recent, which is a rather incredible feat. You’ve also recovered from your flirtation with Hindu nationalism and (Indira) Gandhi’s outright despotism rather well.
But in terms of accomplishments, right now your culture is sorely lacking and this crowd will probably not look to it for guidance, even as we mourn the inevitable death of our own High Civilization.
